Job Description / Responsibility
Contributing to the analysis of local/national markets and value chains
Analyse how and where people currently enrolled in the programmes sell their produce (agriculture, livestock, fisheries, artcraft), how much earning they get and issue recommendations for improved programme design (which businesses and trainings should be prioritized).
Through secondary and primary information gathering, develop an understanding of and document both the local low-income markets and national value chains relevant to WFP's livelihoods and self-reliance programme. Map existing distribution channels, determine pricing and product demand. Conduct market surveys and assessments as required.
For the self-reliance programme, map out all market based initiatives in the camps, and get a good understanding of opportunities and challenges (lessons learnt exercise)
Contributing to designing a strategy for market linkages and value chain:
Under the leadership of the senior value chain expert, provide inputs to share WFP's market linkages strategy.
Work closely with WFP's livelihoods team and cooperating partners to help operationalize the strategy, and monitor its implementation.
Market linkages management:
For the host community, help people who produce and sell as a group get registered as community based organizations or cooperatives, and help facilitate purchase agreements between processors/retailers and the groups.
For the camps, provide guidance on the product/ service needed inside the camps (closed economy) to inform the design of the vocational training package. Explore opportunities for market linkages outside of the camps.
Lead on the establishment and the scaling up of farmers markets in the camps.

Educational Requirements
Degree in Business, Economics, Food Science, Agronomy or Agriculture or related areas, or with experience in the business field. Master's degree preferred.
Experience Requirements
At least 6 year(s)
Job Requirements
Minimum of 6 years of experience in food, artcraft or garment market systems, including experience working in the private sector and/or social enterprises.
Experience working in the field with farmers is an asset, as well as familiarity with the context of Cox's Bazar.
Successful experience linking farmers with buyers.
Prior experience leading project implementation in challenging contexts.
Good understanding of agricultural market systems. Understanding of artcraft and garment value chains in Bangladesh is a plus.
Experience in product pricing and contracting with processors/ retailers.
Good project management and analytical skills.
Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
Excellent oral and written presentation skills and good computer skills in business software (Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint).
Fluency in Chittagonian language is an advantage.
