The High Court has upheld bail on the ruling Awami League lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar, Abdur Rahman Bodi, who was convicted of concealing wealth information.
Chamber Judge Syed Mahmud Hossain of the court passed the order on Sunday, after squashing a petition filed by the ACC seeking stay on the bail.
Bodi’s lawyer Nasrin Siddiqa Lina said that there is no legal bar for her client to get released now. On Monday, the High Court granted a 6-month ad interim bail to the MP.
The anti-graft watchdog filed the petition seeking stay order on the bail. Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan took part in the hearing for the ACC.
Dhaka’s 3rd special judge Abu Ahammed Jamadar on November 2 sentenced Bodi to three years in jail and fined him Taka one million in a graft case filed by the ACC.
According to the case records, Bodi had submitted a wrong wealth statement to the anti-graft body, concealing the real price of his properties.
ACC Deputy Director Abdus Sobhan filed the case on August 21, 2014, while investigation officer and ACC deputy director Manjil Morshed pressec charges against the lawmaker on May 7 last year.
